It’s Mo… an accomplished sportsman and coach in his own right, Mo found the transition outside of sport life tough. In his own words, “when that part of my life came to an end, I was lost and I was gone. I had played & coached a lot of sport, especially in the Barossa where you’ve got a lot of people that rely on you and want from you and when that all finished, I was lost.”

So after some soul-searching, Mo tried his hand at buying, selling and collecting old records. He started off buying a few and then partnered up with another guy and they piled their resources together.

Mo reckons, “My business partner is the Wiz, he knows so much about collecting, how to research them, which ones are collectables, he knows so much, but I’m learning the ins and outs pretty fast.”

Mo adds, “there is a huge surge of the 60’s, 70’s & 80’s records at the moment & then of course comes the record players & all the associated products that go along with it.”

Although Mo does have a range of CDs and DVDs for sale, when asked is a digital recording better quality than the old stuff… I’m put straight back in my place. Mo lets me have it, “there is no comparison, digital is easy but Vinyl is clarity, vinyl is real and vinyl is honest and you are going to have it forever. You can take it with you. Mo adds that music that is up in the sky, is up in the sky!!! Vinyl is the best and that little crackle noise, that’s supposed to be there, that all makes it even better.”

In total, Mo and his mate have a huge collection of music, asking Mo to give us some numbers, doing some quick sums in his head Mo flys back with, “12,000 records and 8000 CDs give or take a few, plus cassette tapes too. We cover every genre, the lot from hip-hop to techno to progressive rock to alternate rock to heavy-metal, country music to easy listening.”

When asking Mo when he’ll give the music game away, he tells us “it’s a long way off, I’m just starting this, I’ve only been doing it for five minutes compared to some other guys, it’s something you could do all your life and still be a student of it.”

I asked Mo about some of the good people he’s met through this game. “Learning is a powerful thing, if you are bright enough & you listen to the smart guys… a lot of the smart guys listened to me about sport and now I’m learning from other people… & learning is great!!”

Mo is down at The People’s Market at Hart (45 St Vincent Street, Port Adelaide) every Saturday and Sunday and generally on Fridays as well, when he’s out marking up and sorting things out for a busy Saturday and Sunday of trading from 9 am to 3 pm

Mo is a great man who loves a chat & doesn’t mind telling a yarn either. Drop in to the People’s Market at Hart and say g’day next time you’re going past!! I know he’d love to catch up with you. — at The People's Market at Hart, Port Adelaide.
